Supporting the local community is in the DNA of everyone at Houghton Trading. We are a family-owned and family-run business and our stores are at the hearts of their local communities. We want to make a positive contribution in our neighbourhoods, both economically and socially, demonstrating the kind of customer service and care for our neighbours that you only get in locally-owned stores.
We’re more than just a place to buy food and drink. We contribute to life in the community in as many ways as we can.
We get involved with many different and varied community events, both on a local and national scale. Support ranges from simply making a donation to a good cause to helping raise funds and/or raise awareness. We help to organise events, source stock and supply equipment. When we support local football teams we supply the equipment, kits and even the football stands. We sponsor Luton FC! And when it comes to the ‘season of goodwill’ we organise Christmas lunches for the elderly and carol singing – the list goes on ………..
We are very grateful to the communities that continue to support their local stores too. And we’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who has supported us!
Making a Difference Locally Charity (MADL)
We are also part of ‘Making A Difference Locally, which is a charity that was launched to help independently-run local stores to add value in their communities through donations to local charities or good causes. The scheme is truly local as money is raised by local stores over time through the sale of specific products in their stores. The store owner then chooses the beneficiary for the money and a donation is paid to the charity or cause by the Making A Difference Locally Charity.
We’ve been able to help many local charities and good causes through the support from MADL.
